Conventions of a short film

Evidence in film

Impact on Audience

Storyline

The short film I have chosen is “The Spark Tree | Stories of Evergreen Hills” and is about a girl called Sam who helps people with their needs/problems (0:40 - 0:55). We can see how now Sam needs to help her brother Zack since he is getting bullied. She tries to solve the problem but sees the bully has a problem himself but is putting all his problems on her brother (2:33 - 3:14). Sam is going to fix both problems with a spark of hope from the power of the forest.

This will impact the audience since they would want to watch what will happen to both sides of the problems and how will Sam figure out a solution. When Zack is being bullied but also seeing the bullies side on why he bullies makes the audience feel sadness and hope for the bully to change and stop.

Genre

The genre of this short film is adventure/drama seen in the forest (4:10 - 5:30). Sam explores loads of places and goes on an adventure to solve the problem.

This will attract the audience who are interested in drama/adventure films and find it very interesting, and feel joy whilst watching it.

Budget

The budget of the short film is big since we can see it animated with voice actors, and its own soundtrack which would have a big budget. This is seen throughout the whole short film. They had many people on the production side so they had to pay everyone for their work.

The audience would be more attracted to the short film since the short film would have more to be shown.

Abstract Creativity

Throughout the whole short film we can see it’s animated and it’s not like any other short film. The short film has a basic storyline but the concept is very original since it’s animated with its own character style.

The vision of the whole film will stand out since it’s animated and doesn’t have the same style to other typical short films.

Duration

This short film is 10 minutes long which is good since short films are supposed to be 5 to 15 minutes long.

Since it’s a short film it’ll attract the audience since it won’t take that long to watch and they won’t be bored.

In what ways is this film noticeably different to a full length feature?

This film is noticeably different to a full length film since this film gets straight to the point trying to figure out the issue. With a full length film it’ll have more scenes with different backgrounds/places whereas with a short film it’s hard to fit everything in since it’s short. Since it’s a short film there may not be as much character development since there is not a lot of time since a short film is 5-15 minutes and you need to get the point of the short film across. Whereas with a full length film they will have more time to show stuff with character development.
